What Is Synthetic Sapphire Crystal?

Unlike natural gemstones mined from the earth, horological sapphire crystals are lab-grown using the Verneuil process or Kyropoulos method. Pure aluminum oxide ($\text{Al}_2\text{O}_3$) is crystallized under extreme heat and pressure to create corundum crystals of optical purity.

  • Flat Sapphire Crystal: Flushes clean against the bezel for a streamlined, modern profile. It minimizes edge distortion and maximizes direct, top-down dial visibility.

  • Single-Domed Sapphire: Curved on the outer surface and flat underneath, creating subtle edge magnification and vintage aesthetic warmth.

  • Double-Domed Sapphire: Curved on both the top and bottom surfaces in parallel, preventing optical distortion even when reading the time from extreme wrist angles.
